Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
Everything you enter in Renewals — your subscriptions, categories, spending goal, and settings — is stored locally on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded, synced, or shared. There are no accounts and no servers.
Is Renewals itself a subscription?
No — and yes, we see what a bad look that would be for a subscription tracker. Renewals is a one-time purchase. Pay once, keep it forever, including updates.
How do currency conversions work?
If you track subscriptions in more than one currency, Renewals fetches current exchange rates from a public API (frankfurter.app) so your totals make sense in your main currency.
This is the only network request the app makes. It contains no personal data and nothing about your subscriptions — it only downloads the day's rates. Without a connection, Renewals keeps working with the last rates it saw.
How do I back up or move my data to a new phone?
Use Export in Settings to save your data as a file, keep it somewhere safe (like iCloud Drive or Files), then use Import on your new phone to restore it.
Because Renewals has no cloud sync by design, this export file is your backup — we recommend exporting occasionally.
I deleted the app — can you recover my data?
Unfortunately no. Because your data lives only on your device, deleting the app deletes its data, and we have no copy anywhere to restore from. An export file made beforehand is the only way to bring data back.
Does Renewals cancel subscriptions for me?
No. Renewals shows you what you're paying and when each renewal hits, so nothing surprises you — but cancelling happens wherever you subscribed (the App Store, the service's website, and so on). Renewals never has access to your accounts, which is exactly why it can't touch them.
How do I request a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and select your Renewals purchase.
